They do their job and it helps. They are thinning out the illegal ones considerably. It's not like the illegal ones can just grow like mushrooms. From what I am reading they are even more relentless in the area around Linz which is the 3rd biggest city of Austria. One of my friends from Hungary visited me. He traveled with train and police officers and soldiers appeared on the train right after they crossed the border, at the first train station. He will be asked not to nicely to present the ID card but he accidentally presented the driving licence. In Hungary both documents are okay for ID verification. So he showed his driving licence and was almost kicked down from the train. And he was from a EU country. Police officers are crazy sometimes. The police have too much tasks and they are often angry. In many cases, without any real reason. But your friend also made a mistake, for crossing borders you should have a passport or ID card at least. I understood that he showed the wrong card accidentally, and it did not entitle the officers to be harsh. RE: Police action in Vienna against illegal sex workers - SFAdmin - 04-08-2025 In our new article, we explore how more and more short-term rentals in Germany are being misused for illegal prostitution. Criminal groups are booking apartments through platforms like Airbnb and Booking.com to create hidden pop-up brothels that move frequently and avoid detection. Many of the women involved are victims of human trafficking, often unaware of where they are and unable to call for help. These operations violate Germany’s prostitution laws, which require official registration. While platforms claim to support investigations, police say cooperation is slow. Experts call for stronger laws, quicker action, and more responsibility from rental platforms to stop this growing problem.
